Maryland Man Airlifted To Hospital With Burns After Lighting Grill With Gasoline: Fire Marshal

A Maryland man suffered extensive burns to both of his arms after lighting a charcoal grill with gasoline and getting caught in the flames, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

In St. Mary's County, first responders were dispatched to Take It Easy Ranch Road in Callaway shortly after 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, where there was a report of a man who had accidentally caught fire in the trailer park.

Officials say that Thomas Roth attempted to start a charcoal grill using gasoline, catching his clothes on fire, and leaving him with burns to both arms.

Roth was treated and transported by helicopter to MedStar Washington Hospital Center for treatment of his injuries on Saturday afternoon, while members of the Valley Le Volunteer Fire Department were able to quickly corral the flames.

His condition was not immediately available on Monday, Nov. 14.

No other injuries were reported.
